See You In the New Year: A Meditation

If you’re reading this, you’ve made it.

You’ve made it to the end of another year. You’ve faced challenges and obstacles. You’ve survived 100% of your bad days.

You are living. You are present. You are enough.

If you’re reading this, you’ve started something. Or finished something. Or gotten to the hardest part.

You’ve got what it takes to finish the thing. To start again. To get through.

You can do difficult things.

Breathe.

Don’t rush over that.

Breathe.

In the words of Toni Braxton, breathe again.

In the coming weeks, you may take advantage of the opportunity to finish something just in time for the new year. You may take advantage of the open time to work. You may take advantage of the open time to rest.

Both can be good decisions.

In the coming weeks, you may find yourself fatigued. You may find yourself inspired. You may find yourself period.

Go seeking.

You are a writer. It is the purview of writers to observe, to laugh, to dream, to expose, to create, to listen, to be heard, to understand, to perceive, to have adventures, to be silent, to reflect, to joy.

Breathe.

Breathe again.

Set up boundaries. Demarcate the distance from which you can care for yourself and others. You can be firm and gentle. Honesty does not have to be brutal to be true.

You are deserving of pleasure. Just because.

It is okay to seek some solace. It is okay to go to the place of safety. You may not be able to take everyone there with you. That is okay.

Take your time.

Enjoy whatever lies before you.

See you in 2023.
